Scholarship Program at the University of Sheffield, sponsored by the Directorate General of Higher Education, Research, and Technology (DGHERT) of the Republic of Indonesia.
We are proud to introduce you to Arif, one of our best lecturers in the Informatics Undergraduate Program. He has some wonderful news to share with you. He recently came back from England, where he took part in the Pre-Doctoral Bridging Course Program at the University of Sheffield, sponsored by the Directorate General of Higher Education, Research, and Technology (DGHERT) of the Republic
of Indonesia.
This was a brilliant opportunity for him to enhance his skills and knowledge in
Informatics and to get ready for his PhD studies. He is very thankful to the DGHERT and the
University of Sheffield for this incredible scholarship. They were very helpful and generous throughout this process. He enjoyed every moment there in Sheffield, discovering the city, making new friends, and learning from the best professors and fellow students in the field. This was a once-in-a-lifetime experience and he seized it. He will tell you more about his
progress and adventures there.
Arif is passionate about Informatics and its applications in various domains. He has been teaching courses such as Data Structures, Algorithms, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning at our program for more than five years. He has also been involved in several research projects and publications related to these topics. He has a master’s degree in Informatics from the Bandung Institute of Technology and a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Indonesia.
He applied for the Pre-Doctoral Bridging Course Program last year and was selected among hundreds of candidates. The program aims to prepare Indonesian lecturers who have received scholarships from the DGHERT to pursue their PhD studies abroad. The program consists of two semesters of intensive courses in Informatics at the University of Sheffield, one of the top universities in the UK and the world for this field. The courses cover advanced topics such as Natural Language Processing, Computer Vision, Data Mining, and Deep Learning. The program also provides guidance and support for writing research proposals and finding suitable supervisors for the PhD studies.
Arif says that he learned a lot from this program and that it was a great challenge for him. He had to adapt to a different academic culture and system, as well as a different language and environment. He says that he was impressed by the quality of teaching and research at the University of Sheffield and that he met many inspiring people there. He also says that he enjoyed exploring the city of Sheffield and its surroundings, which have a rich history and culture. He visited many places of interest such as museums, parks, cathedrals, castles, and pubs. He also traveled to other cities in England such as London, Manchester, Liverpool, and Oxford.
Arif is now back in Indonesia and is preparing for his PhD studies. He hopes to start his PhD next year at the University of Sheffield or another prestigious university in the UK or Europe. He says that he is very grateful for this opportunity and that he wants to contribute to the development of Informatics in Indonesia through his teaching and research. He also wants to share his experience and knowledge with his students and colleagues at our program.
We are very happy for Arif and we congratulate him on his achievements. We wish him all the best for his future endeavors. We are sure that he will make us proud as one of our lecturers and as one of our alumni. We look forward to hearing more from him soon.
